Become Pain Free in 2019!
Many of our New Year’s resolutions revolve around health and fitness, relationships and our careers. And if you suffer from back pain, you may want to consider a resolution for improving your quality of life by having certain health goals in mind to alleviate or prevent this pain. And, believe it or not, when your spine is misaligned, you are more likely to put on weight causing even more back issues.
There are three curves in your spine. The curves help balance the weight distribution of your body. To help keep your back strong and pain free, think about adding the following into your routine.
Stretch Daily: Routine stretching helps prevent the muscles from becoming tight and developing chronic problems. Try and stretch every day.
Exercise Regularly: Not only is exercise good for overall physical and mental health, it can also keep your spine healthy by allowing each part of your body to move in various ranges of motion.
Stay Hydrated: Water in your body makes up an important part of your blood, muscles, skin and intervertebral discs. Staying hydrated is important for your back because the discs are like sponges and absorb a lot of water.
Increase Core Strength: You’ve probably heard about how important it is to strengthen your core! Your core offers stability to your spine when you lift a heavy object. If your core is weak, your body will be more susceptible to injury. Ask your chiropractor about some simple exercises to strengthen your core.
Support Your Feet: Your feet absorb shock with every step you take. Without the correct support, you can put stress on joints higher up in your body leading to back pain. Consider wearing supportive shoes to work and other times when you are on your feet a lot.
Prioritize Sleep: Take a look at your sleeping environment. How old is your mattress? Do you have disruptive electronics in the bedroom? If you’re experiencing back pain, it could be a sign you aren’t getting proper sleep.
Keep Your Spine Properly Aligned: Spinal alignment and mobility can help with chronic back pain and prevent muscle tightening. When a joint becomes misaligned, the muscles “lock down” the area with the intention of maintaining stability. With proper alignment the joint function is restored. Routine spinal check-ups help ensure that your back is aligned properly and your joints are moving correctly.
